First aid

Yesterday we started with first aid we learnt to do CPR and we learnt a bit more about the rest of the body. Then this morning we did our theoretical test wich involved the circulatory system and how to give CPR. After that we learnt how to treat burns, cuts, people with heart attacks or stroke and broken bones. Then we did our CPR practical and now we finished with that.
Once we had finished with the wildebeeste we cought blesbok they came in almost the same way as the wildebeeste except that once they were in the truck we were all called to help them put pipes on the blesbucks horns so that they don't injure or kill each other.

Game capture

Finally the thing I have been waiting for the whole year GAME CAPTURE it was awesome. We started off the day by meeting at the wildlife centre where they let us know what we would be doing that day. After that we went out to the field where they had already started setting up the capture boma. We helped with the rest of the boma and setting up of the ramp into the truck. Then came the fun part we were all given places to stand and were told that once the animals had been chased past us that we should run with the curtains to close them so tha the animals do not run back out. Then the helicopter went up in search of the first lot of animals that we would be catching. As we heard the chopper nearing us we started to get glimpses of wat was coming our way, it was a heard of 25 blue wildebeest as they were chased past the first set of curtains the helicopter let of its siron which was the que for the first lot of people to close their curtains as soon as the curtains were closed the wildebeest were trapped and they turned around to look for a escape at this point the guys that had already closed their curtains started shouting and whisteling to chase them towards the truck the wildebeest then turned in our direction and came running towards us at full speed as they passed the curtain before us Liaan and Werner ran across with their curtain and a second later they had passed us so I ran with my curtain and saw Dolf close his after me.

friday

Last friday we went with Mabula Sondelas head ranger to put out mineral licks and fill the dips with tick-off. We went all over the farm from the old Lesaka camp to most of the dams and a few of the Makhato houses. We filled up both the duncan and pressure plate applicators with tick-off.

Fire

The week after doing fire fighting practical we started working in the veld. We started with cutting a fire break around the Moselesele tent camp. Where we also learnt about removing problem plants.

Tamboukie. We went camping out for three days at the Tamboukie tent camp to practice our guiding skills. It was lots of fun for every one we had to heat all our water for our showers using a donkey and we had no electricity. At night we slept under the stars it was freezing cold.

Wesely, Vaaitjie, George, Werner and Jako were the kan kan girls at the staff caborae during the school holidays.

Wildlife centre

we took a sick purple heron on sunday and took it to the wildlife centre. At the wildlife centre we helped with feeding and i got to feed the baby giraffe. I had to hold the bottle as high as my arm would reach so that it would be at the right hight for the giraffe to drink.
